National Hero and Transition Period

leave a comment »

Thailand National Hero can be attributed to King Rama V aka Chulalongkorn (r 1868) due to modernization of Thai in 19th century along with social reform such as abolishment of slavery. In Philippines the national hero is Joze Rizal (b 1861). And in Malaysia national hero can be attributed to Tunku Abdul Rahman.

In Indonesia, the concept of national hero is more of “title” concept (Orders, decorations, and medals of Indonesia), where currently as of 2016 there are 157 heroes (12 females) and also a “political” concept where it used to uniting people.

So it is difficult to trace the major historical event in Indonesia that related with social reform.
