Kenapa kita impor garam

leave a comment »

International trade memang membingungkan.

“…Timur Kuran argues that what slowed the economic development of the Middle East was not colonialism or geography, still less Muslim attitudes or some incompatibility between Islam and capitalism…”

Menemukan buku-buku seperti ini menarik. Seperti halnya menemukan buku-buku Acemoglu atau Diamond.

Sociology of Southeast Asia

leave a comment »

Southeast Asia (SEA) is one of the region in the world that has biggest inequality in size, economic size, geographical size. SEA is reflection of the world economy. First we have Singapore, a developed economy influenced by British. Second after Singapore is Malaysia, which part of commonwealth. On the other spectrum we have Thailand, who never colonized, due to act as buffer state between British and French Indochina. Malaysia and Thailand is emerging economy. On the other side we have a bit stagnant Indonesia and Phillipines, who is the poorest from GDP percapita in the region. Which has strong religious practice, Spanish Catolic and Middle East Islam. On the other side, SEA has recently emerging economy such as Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia. Indonesia and Phillipines is complaining the most of everything. It is a par, has democracy, has the same problem.

Education: are you allergic to criticism?

leave a comment »

Education should not allergic to criticism. So if there is an article mention about education, well even the worst, subjective one. I would say its valueable and very important.

List of Social Phenomenon

leave a comment »

Ah science, that’s why we can explain why people enjoy abusing their president.

1. Popularity: complex social phenomenon with no agreed upon definition
This can be caused by Archetype Theory and ‘Celebrity Worship’ Theory

2. Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias wherein unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability to be much higher than is accurate

3. Pygmalion / Rosenthal effect: The greater the expectation placed upon people, the better they perform

4. Hawthorne / Observer effect: Individuals modify or improve an aspect of their behavior in response to their awareness of being observed
