Social Science

Baru nyadar, seorang teman pernah berkata bahwa penelitian science beneran seperti STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) itu musuhnya cuman satu: jaman. Artinya kalau tahun 2000 belajar Semantic Web, bisa jadi sekarang sudah tidak terpakai lagi ilmunya, karena Semantic Web sudah totally different. Atau yang engineering belajar piezoelectricty, ternyata baru dipakai trendnya 200 tahun kemudian -penelitinya sudah wassalam. Ketinggalan jaman, kalau engga perusahaan itu bangkrut, tidak ada lagi yang menggunakan teknologi tersebut.

Orang social science, dalam hal ini, yang ilmunya tidak jelas, bisa sedikit nyombong karena meski ilmunya tidak bisa diimplementasikan, tapi paling engga ada orang yang mau membeli penelitian tersebut. Negara misalnya, mau hingga akhir jaman, penelitian sosial mengenai pendidikan, kesehatan, termasuk ekonomi pasti ada yang mau membelinya -meski ilmu tersebut tidak jelas bagaimana pemakaiannya, misalnya selain digunakan dalam debat pemilu.

Ambil contoh longitudinal vs cross-sectional study. Ini adalah term khas social scientist untuk mengatakan bahwa penelitian itu tergantung dengan jumlah sample yang diambil. Ini taktik ngeles yang sangat elegan dari peneliti sosial -taking bullshit to the next level.
