Sustainability and Digitalization

The Global Connectivity Index (GCI) (2014) is a comprehensive guide for policy makers and industry leaders to develop a roadmap to the digital economy. The four economic pillars are ICT supply, demand, experience, and potential. The four technology enablers are broadband, cloud services, AI, and the IoT.

Construction of ICT infrastructure is critical for a nation’s competitiveness: A 20% increase in ICT investment will grow a nation’s GDP by 1%.

The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) monitors Europe’s overall digital performance and tracks the progress of EU countries regarding their digital competitiveness. On annual basis, it monitors the performance of member states in digital connectivity, digital skills, online activity and digital public services in order to assess the state of digitalization of each member state as well as to identify areas requiring priority investment and action. DESI includes 5 dimensions:

1.Connectivity (fixed and mobile broadband, prices)
2.Human capital (Internet use, basic and advanced digital skills)
3.Use of Internet services (citizens’ use of content, communication, online transactions)
4.Integration of digital technology (business digitalization, e-commerce)

The Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) project reports aggregate and individual governance indicators for over 200 countries and territories over the period 1996–2020, for six dimensions of governance:
